Tree Removal & Replacement

Although tree removal is a last resort, there are circumstances when it is necessary. An arborist can help decide whether or not a tree should be removed. Professionally trained arborists have the skills and equipment to safely and efficiently remove trees.

A permit is required for the removal of trees within the public rights-of-way. When trees are removed from public land, including the rights-of-way, a replacement tree is planted. The new tree does not necessarily have to be in the same location as the tree removed.

Tree Spacing Requirements:

  • Small trees - 25 feet
  • Medium trees - 35 feet
  • Large trees - 45 feet
  • Exceptions can be considered Urban Forestry approval depending upon species/cultivar varieties (vary in mature size).

Distance from Curbs and Sidewalks:

  • Small trees - 1.5 feet (3-4 foot planting strip)
  • Medium trees - 2.5 feet (5+ foot planting strip)
  • Large trees - - 4 feet (8+ foot planting strip)
