History of Parks Day

In 2007, the City of Coeur d'Alene completed it's Parks Master Plan. During the process it was revealed that a large percentage of area residents weren't aware of the incredible park system Coeur d'Alene has to offer. In order to help area residents learn more about each park and what activities are available, the Parks Master Plan Committee volunteered to perform as the Parks Day Celebration Committee and plan an annual event to bring citizens out to enjoy our parks.

It was decided early on that this event was going to include food for all visiters and demonstrations of the different activities at each park. Since the Coeur d'Alene Park System includes 31 parks and more planned for the future, it was decided to highlight different parks each year. The first year Bluegrass ParkRamsey Park and Riverstone Park were highlighted with trail rides on the new Prairie Trail linking the three parks. The second year featured Shadduck Lane ParkCherry Hill Park and Canfield Mountain Natural Area. The third year featured Sunshine Meadows Parks and Landings Park. The fourth year featured Northshire Park & Central Bark Dog Park, the Cd'A Soccer Complex, and Johnson Mill River Park. The fifth year featured G.O Phippeny Park and Winton Park. The sixth year featured Sunset Park and North Pines Park. The seventh year featured McEuen Park, and Tubbs Hill. The eighth year will feature City Park and Forest Cemetery.
