Tubbs Hill Western States Fuel Mitigation Grant Work

Western States Fuel Management Grant

Tubbs Hill

The City of Coeur d’Alene has been working with the Kootenai County Office of Emergency Management team and the Idaho Department of Lands to successfully implement a Western States Fuel Mitigation grant to perform fuel mitigation work to reduce the risk of fire on Tubbs Hill. This grant is for $240,000 to contract work for fuel reduction performed on the Hill. Not only will this help the city in reducing the risk of fire to this treasured natural park, it also allows us to work towards improving forest health. The majority of the fuel mitigation work was done in the summer and fall in 2025. The City has hired a contractor to replant 500 new trees in the spring of 2026. Additional fuel mitigation will also be done on the southeast side of the hill in the spring as well.

If you have questions about this upcoming grant work or for any other questions regarding public trees please contact Monte McCully, Urban Forester at (208) 292-5766.
