Stormwater Project on Kathleen Avenue

The City of Coeur d’Alene (the “City”) has a project that will begin February 28, 2022, (depending on weather), with the installation of underground stormwater storage/infiltration tanks on Crown Avenue and Royal Street, north of Kathleen Avenue.  The City has contracted with Selland Construction, Inc., who will proceed with the construction of the additional lane, sidewalk, and paving on Kathleen after installation of the tanks.  The entire project is expected to be completed by Memorial Day.  Traffic signal upgrades at the intersection of Kathleen Avenue and Government Way have been completed.

Please expect delays and intermittent closures during the project.  The public is asked to use caution when entering the work zones and, if at all possible, avoid these areas.  However, the businesses in and around the construction zone will remain open.  Your patience and cooperation are appreciated.

The City and surrounding areas are experiencing unprecedented growth in population which naturally increases traffic.  As a public agency, our responsibility to the public is the careful management and expansion of the transportation network.  The City is continually expanding the quality and capacity of our roads and signals.  A critical upcoming project is the widening of Kathleen Avenue between US-95 and Government Way.  This 0.25 mile stretch of roadway is an important connection to US-95 and often experiences extreme congestion.

To mitigate some of this congestion and add capacity to our system, the City intends to widen the south side of Kathleen Avenue, adding a lane of traffic and extending the eastbound lanes to Government Way.  The project will also enhance pedestrian safety and access.
