Councilmember Dan Sheckler

Dan Sheckler is a lifelong North Idaho resident who has lived and worked in Coeur d’Alene for many years. He earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Idaho College of Law and has practiced law since 2007. Dan runs a private practice serving individuals and families throughout North Idaho, with experience in civil litigation and criminal defense. His professional background includes regular work with courts, public agencies, and regulatory bodies, providing a strong understanding of local government processes and statutory decision-making.

 

As a member of the City Council, Dan is focused on protecting the constitutional rights of all citizens, and preserving meaningful public participation in local government. He is committed to ensuring that residents have a clear opportunity to be heard before decisions are made, and that city processes remain transparent, fair, and accessible.

 

Dan’s service emphasizes limited local government and the delivery of core municipal services. He supports maintaining strong police and fire departments, responsible fiscal management, and thoughtful growth consistent with the city’s comprehensive plan.

 

Dan is also the founder and a board member of Coeur d’Alene Youth Sailing. Dan is married to Lisa Sheckler, a local prosecutor, and they have one child, Mason, who was born and raised in Coeur d’Alene.
