Fortus Realty, located at Third Street and Harrison Avenue in Coeur d’Alene, has received a Landscape of Excellence award. The award is given by Community Canopy, a tree care education program, in recognition of the outstanding use and care of trees within their landscapes.

Community Canopy tasks local Urban Forestry Committee members to inspect nominated landscapes for review. Urban Forestry members selected Fortus Realty because the landscape is a perfect example of conscientious design and tree retention, said Coeur d’Alene urban forestry coordinator Katie Kosanke. “Special consideration was made in the design process for existing and new trees and business signage placement,” Kosanke said.

The Landscape of Excellence award was presented this week during the Parks and Recreation Commission meeting. Fortus Realty gives recognition for landscape design to Jill Roche of Mother Nature Landscape, general contractor Edwards Smith Construction and Clearwater Summit for a high level of care for the landscape maintenance.

Landscape of Excellence Awards have been presented since 2010 by Community Canopy for encouraging good tree care by highlighting those businesses or organizations who are doing things right with trees in the landscape.

Community Canopy is a tree care partnership of the cities of Coeur d'Alene, Hayden, Post Falls, Spokane and the Spokane County Conservation District with the assistance of the University of Idaho Extension and Washington State University Extension
