The third and final phase of the Fort Sherman Playground restoration will take place this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the playground, located at City Park downtown.
The final phase involves clear coating/sealing the entire wood structure area. A barbecue lunch will be provided to volunteers, who are advised to wear work clothes.
Last weekend, local high school students assisted in painting several features at the park. Stage 1 included power spraying the wooden playground to prep it for new paint and sealant.
The project is being led by the Panhandle Kiwanis, who spearheaded construction of the playground 18 years ago, said Dave Kilburg, president of the Panhandle Kiwanis.
The Kiwanis are hoping to attract 100 volunteers to seal the play structure. Those interested in volunteering can send an email to [email protected].
