"It's a Cutthroat World"
Artists:  Cain & Todd Benson
Location:  Centennial Trail Underpass (Atlas Road)

In July, 2016, the Coeur d'Alene Arts Commission issued a Call to Artists for a mural on the Centennial Trail Underpass, located near the confluence of the North Idaho Centennial Trail and the Prairie Trail (off of Atlas Road).  The North Idaho Centennial Trail is 23 miles long, extending from Higgens Points on Coeur d'Alene Lake Drive, to the Idaho/Washington state line, where it connects with the Spokane River Centennial Trail and on to Nine Mile Falls in Spokane.  No theme was suggested for the call, allowing for open interpretation and creativity to make a lasting impression on residents and visitors.  The mural cost was $38,000.

The "It's a Cutthroat World" mural was selected by a public art selection commission, which consisted of seven (7) voting members, including arts professionals, artists, citizens, and a council member.  Artist Statement:  Our art is purely autobiographical.  It is about ourselves and the world we live in.  It is an attempt at a record.  We are inspired by people and subjects that interest us."
