City of Coeur d'Alene Mayor Dan Gookin Announces Nomination for Council Seat #3

After a thorough review of all applications and interviews with three shortlisted candidates, Mayor Dan Gookin announces his nomination of Dan Sheckler for appointment to Council Seat #3. The nomination will be presented for confirmation by the City Council during its meeting on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, pursuant to Idaho Code §50-704.

The City of Coeur d’Alene received 23 applications for the vacancy on Council Seat #3, which occurred when Councilmember Dan Gookin assumed the role of Mayor on January 6, 2026. The Mayor and City Council conducted interviews with the three shortlisted candidates on January 8, 2026.

Mayor Gookin stated “The city is fortunate to have such a strong group of qualified applicants who truly care about our community. After weighing input from various sources, I believe Dan Sheckler brings the right experience and fresh perspective to serve our residents. On behalf of the City Council, I’m eager to work with Dan as we continue to make Coeur d’Alene a city of excellence.”

If confirmed by Council, Dan Sheckler will serve the remainder of the term for Council Seat #3, which runs through January 4, 2028, and may choose to run in the next election to retain the seat.
