Downtown Coeur d’Alene and a key freeway interchange will have numerous road closures in order to ensure adequate traffic flow for Independence Day festivities on Thursday, July 4.

The Fourth of July is a major celebration in the Lake City and many visitors and residents will spend their day watching the annual parade and the community funded fireworks show.

In order to prevent major backups on to Interstate 90 after fireworks, the eastbound off-ramp on to Northwest Boulevard will be closed beginning at 7 p.m. July 4. Motorists will need to use another interchange to get to their final destination, which will help spread traffic flow throughout the community better.

The City’s downtown traffic plan to help motorists leave the area after the fireworks show will be implemented at about 8:45 p.m. Barricades, signage, and flaggers will assist in keeping traffic flowing away from downtown, with the focus being to get motorists to leave downtown either to the north or east. The ability to enter Northwest Boulevard from downtown will be blocked for this reason, and traffic control devices will usher motorists either toward Mullan, Front or Sherman avenues east or north on 1st through 7th streets, excluding 3rd Street, which is generally a one-way heading south.

For full traffic control details, please see the accompanying PDF, which has also been posted to the City’s website and linked on Facebook.
