Coeur d’Alene – In an ongoing effort to improve the public sewer system’s reliability and functionality, the City of Coeur d’Alene’s Wastewater Utility will begin a project in the city rehabilitating and replacing sewer and water pipes predating the 1970’s.

Starting the Week of July 10th, 2023 contractors will begin work on Mullan Ave from 16th Street East to 19th Street to add a new 24-inch sewer pipe to relieve a sewer capacity issue. This excavation project will take several weeks. The work is scheduled to take place from 7am to 5pm, Monday through Friday with the possibility of some weekend work.  This portion of the project is anticipated to be completed by August 15th, 2023. The contractor will then move south to Young Ave between 17th St and 19th St. This second portion of the project will include Water work and Sewer work. The entire project is scheduled for completion by October 23rd, 2023.

Contractors will be providing door hanger notifications to all affected residents and businesses 48 hours and 24 hours prior to commencing construction activity.  After being notified, the City is asking all affected residents and businesses to reduce their daytime sewage discharge as much as possible.  At the end of that working day, normal sewage discharge may resume.  If necessary, residents are encouraged to pour water down interior floor drains and low/unused plumbing fixtures.  This should minimize odors entering into homes and businesses.

All work will be confined to publicly owned property and the right of way.  There may be minor, periodic interruptions to traffic flow within the neighborhood including a complete closure of Mullan Ave from 16th to 19th Streets for periods of time. Flaggers and detour routes will redirect any disruptions to local traffic.  We apologize in advance for this inconvenience.
