CDA Arts Commission Seeks Artists for Utility Box Beautification Project

Posted: 4/9/2018 9:04:22 AM

The City of Coeur d’Alene Arts Commission is seeking artists for its Utility Box Beautification project.  The utility boxes, which keep lights flashing and communications running, are undiscovered canvases for artists, graphic designers, photographers, illustrators, and other individuals with the imagination to cover them with their artwork.  The artist’s design will be printed on vinyl and wrapped around the boxes.  The design must integrate all sides of a box to capture the interest of those that drive and walk by them.

Public art can be a change agent for the community.  It creates and enhances neighborhood and community identity.  It enhances the visual landscape and character of the city.  It turns ordinary spaces into community landmarks and promotes community dialogue and, most importantly, it’s accessible to everyone.

Information packets are available at City Hall, 710 E. Mullan Avenue, or by CLICKING HERE.    Artist proposals are due by 5:00 p.m., May 15, 2018.  Artists with questions are encouraged to contact Amy Ferguson, Arts Commission staff support, at 208-666-5754.
