It was a day of appreciation for all veterans, both past and present. Veterans from across the region on Saturday were treated to a free meal and access to more than 60 services including medical, dental, massage, veterinary, haircuts and much more.
Coeur d’Alene Mayor Steve Widmyer and Post Falls Mayor Ron Jacobson welcomed the honorable vets during the morning ceremony at the North Idaho Fairgrounds and organized by St. Vincent dePaul.
“I would like to recognize all the veterans of North Idaho—many of whom lost their lives protecting us and our freedom,” said Mayor Widmyer. “Our service members have all made a great impact on our lives and I am honored to recognize your contributions. All American have our veterans to thank for making this the greatest country in the world.
“In the greater Coeur d’Alene area,” the mayor continued, “we have over 2,000 veterans and many need our assistance; which is what makes this Stand Down such an important event and tribute. This is a day of appreciation for veterans everywhere—most particularly our local veterans.
“On behalf of the city, I applaud St. Vincent DePaul for sponsoring the Stand Down and I applaud you for your service.”
