The city of Coeur d’Alene is applying for a portion of $10 million in available grant funding aimed at supporting innovation and growth in small cities across the country. America's Best Communities contest will help communities who qualify address the need for growth by identifying and investing in innovative ideas that can be used to build and sustain their local economies. As part of the grant application process, the city is providing some interesting fun facts about Coeur d’Alene.Here are a few we came up with, visit our Facebook page at facebook.com/CDAgov to vote for your favorite!

1. Coeur d’Alene is home to the world-famous floating green on the 14th hole of The Coeur d’Alene Resort Golf Course.
2. Since Ironman came to Coeur d’Alene in 2003, some 1,500 local residents have completed the grueling triathlon.
3. The city is named after the Coeur d'Alene People, a tribe of Native Americans who lived along the rivers and lakes of the region and were first encountered by French fur traders in the late 18th century.
4. The world’s longest floating boardwalk, located at the Coeur d’Alene Resort, was built in 1986 and is over ¾ of a mile long
5. In 2009, Coeur d'Alene was ranked No. 12 on Newsmax magazine’s list of the “Top 25 Most Uniquely American Cities and Towns.”
