Landscape enthusiasts take note. Two landscape workshops will be held Friday, November 7. The workshops are designed for anyone who makes decisions about, or participates in, the maintenance of landscapes, from professional landscape contractors to homeowners associations and church trustees.

Both workshops will be held at the WSU Extension in Spokane at the extension office, 222 N Havana.

“Restoring Damaged Trees through Structural Pruning” will be held in the morning. It will be led by Garth Davis, with the Spokane County Conservation District and Jeff Perry of the City of Spokane. This workshop will show how to apply the principles of structural pruning to trees that have been damaged by storms and people. Damaged trees can be pruned over time so that they regain their structural integrity. “Pests and Pesticides” will be presented in the afternoon by Aaron Brown Pesticide Specialist for the Washington State Department of Agriculture. Safe and appropriate use of pesticides in regards to trees and herbicide damage will be covered.

A $10 registration fee per workshop helps cover workshop costs. Besides instruction, attendees will receive related educational materials, snacks, and door prizes. Lunch will be served to those attending both workshops. ISA Certified Arborist CEUs and Certified Landscape Technician credits will be available. Pesticide applicators credits for WA and ID have been applied for the afternoon session.

The workshops are sponsored by Community Canopy, a tree care education partnership working toward sustainable community forests. Program partners include the cities of Post Falls, Hayden, Coeur d’Alene and the Spokane County Conservation District in cooperation with the Washington State University Extension and the University of Idaho Extension.

Pre-registration is required since there is limited space. A workshop brochure and registration form is available by calling 208/769-2266 or send an email to [email protected].
