After a year of data gathering involving thousands of community members, the Coeur d’Alene 2030 Visioning (CDA 2030) project management team is moving forward with its proposed implementation plan to lead Coeur d’Alene into a bright future.

The Coeur d’Alene City Council on Tuesday voted to pass a resolution adopting the CDA 2030 Community Vision, Strategies and Implementation Plan developed through a series of public meetings, surveys and interviews.

“It is exciting to see a broad range of input from people across the greater Coeur d’Alene area represented in our community’s vision and implementation plan,” said CDA 2030 project manager Nicole Kahler.

CDA 2030 recognizes that the specific action items that are intended to achieve the community’s goals will continue to evolve as the lead partners work closely with the community to achieve the objectives of the community’s vision.

The action items are divided into six categories: Community and Identity, Education and Learning, Environment and Recreation, Growth and Development, Health and Safety, and Jobs and Economy.

The proposed implementation priorities include very specific action items (some small and easy “wins” and some big and more difficult “game-changers”), along with identifying lead partners that will enable the community’s goals and vision to be accomplished, according to a report released by the CDA 2030 project management team.

The city of Coeur d’Alene will take a leadership role in the implementation of CDA 2030 and will partner with other community stakeholders as the action items are evaluated and prioritized for implementation. Passage of the resolution did not involve the commitment of any funds; rather, it directs lead partners to move forward with prioritizing action items for implementation.

“The primary goals and benefits of adopting the implementation plan is that the city would have a roadmap or set of guidelines that could be consulted when making decisions—similar to the city’s Comprehensive Plan,” said city attorney Mike Gridley, a member of the CDA 2030 project management team.
