West Lakeshore Drive and the nearby Centennial Trail will be closed and there will be limited access to the North Idaho Museum and the Independence Point Parking Lot on September 18, 2018, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.  The City of Coeur d’Alene, under the direction of Streets & Engineering Superintendent Tim Martin, will be conducting a flood preparedness exercise with the assembly of the floodwall. The project will begin at the intersection of Hubbard Avenue and Rosenberry Drive, continue on West Lakeshore Drive, then through City Park, with completion at the parking lot north of the museum on Northwest Boulevard.

The Coeur d’ Alene Flood Control Project is a federal project that consists of an interchanging levee / floodwall system that was completed August 1, 1941 to provide flood protection for portions of downtown, City Park,  the Fort Grounds Neighborhood, North Idaho College and the City of Coeur d’Alene Wastewater Treatment Plant.  City crews will be installing approximately 239 beams and 1,700 wooden planks to construct the floodwall.  The erection of the flood wall is expected to be completed in fewer than 8 hours.  The City of Coeur d’ Alene is the sponsor of the system and is responsible for its operation and maintenance.  For more information, visit www.cdaid.org, or the City of Coeur d’Alene Facebook page.
