Although tree removal is a last resort, there are circumstances when it is necessary. An arborist can help decide whether or not a tree should be removed. Professionally trained arborist have the skills and equipment to safely and efficiently remove trees. Removal is recommended when a tree:
- is dead, dying, or considered irreparably hazardous;
- is causing a traffic vision obstruction that cannot be corrected through pruning;
- is crowding and causing harm other trees and the situation cannot be corrected through pruning;
- is to be replaced by a more suitable specimen.
A permit is required for the removal of trees within the public rights-of-way. When trees are removed from public land, including the rights-of-way, a replacement tree is planted. The new tree does not necessarily have to be in the same location as the tree removed.
