Perennial grown from a pip (an upright, small rootstock), with small, fragrant, drooping, waxy white, bell-shaped spring flowers on 6-8 inch stems rising above 2 broad basal leaves. Red, round fruit appear in late summer. Slow to establish, but persistent and long-lived once situated. All parts of the plant are poisonous.
