Epimediums are groundcovers that spread to form dense mats of semi-evergreen foliage from wiry roots. The leaves are divided into small, glossy heart-shaped or triangular leaflets. The unusual flowers are carried in open clusters in early spring before the new leaves emerge. Several Epimedium species are available, each unique in flower color or plant size. All are long-lived, carefree plants that do extremely well in dry shade. Fall color is an added bonus.
