Public Art - Northwest Boulevard

"Guardians of the Lake"
Artists: David Govedare & Keith Powell
Location: Northwest Boulevard

Commissioned in 2001 by the Coeur d'Alene Arts Commission for the Northwest Boulevard gateway into the City of Coeur d'Alene.

The artists, David Govedare and Keith Powell, were one of 14 artist(s) who submitted qualifications for the Northwest Boulevard art. The Selection Committee, consisting of seven (7) voting members including arts professionals, artists, project architect, citizens, and a council member, narrowed the submissions to four finalists, whose proposals were presented for public viewing and comment from March 1st through March 12, 2001. The recommendation of the Selection Committee was approved by the Coeur d'Alene City Council on August 13, 2001, and the installation was completed on May 15, 2002.

Former City Councilman Ben Wolfinger said the feathers are "symbols of the eagles and ospreys that have been nesting on our lake's shore for hundreds of years," and "will be a great reminder of and welcome to this natural paradise we call home."
