The first of the City's new fire engines will be introduced to the community through an official in-service ceremony at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Feb.8.

Ceremonies will be at Coeur d’Alene Fire Station 2, 3850 N Ramsey, and media and community members are invited to attend.

Three new fire engines and one new ladder truck were purchased with General Obligation, or GO, Bond funds overwhelmingly approved by voters in 2015.

This ceremony is a traditional one passed down, and modified, throughout the years in the fire service.  Dating back to the time of horse drawn fire carriages, it became a community event to push the new carriage into the fire station.

Mayor Steve Widmyer will assist with the ceremony by spraying water from the old engine to clean the new engine and pass on the spirit of the station.
