Coeur d’Con Gearing Up for Geeky Gathering Aug. 13

Coeur d’Con – your local opportunity to get your geek on – is gearing up with activities at the Coeur d’Alene Public Library leading to the main event on Saturday, Aug. 13.
This is the second year for the library’s celebrations of comics, graphic novels, movies, and video games.
Friday, July 29, is the deadline for the Coeur d’Con Fan Art Contest. Entry forms can be picked up at any of the public desks at the library, 702 E. Front Ave, and at Lake City Public Library, 6101 N. Ramsey Road. The forms are also downloadable from www.coeurdcon.wordpress.com.
Artists are invited to submit original work or to select a graphic novel, movie, or video game to depict. Entries will be displayed at the library leading up to and during Coeur d’Con and will be judged by the public.
A workshop for teens to create their own comics is offered Saturday, July 30, noon to 4 p.m. The session will be taught by Lucas Hutson, a teacher at the Tech Lab at Skyway Elementary. Materials and refreshments are provided for this free workshop. Registration is required by calling 208-769-2315 or by e-mail at [email protected].
Friday, Aug. 5, is the deadline for cosplay contest submissions. Participants who do not have their own photo to submit can come to the library on Aug. 6 and 7, 12-3 p.m., to have their photos taken in the Gozzer Room downstairs.
Online voting will take place at www.coeurdcon.wordpress.com Aug. 8-12. In-house voting on Aug. 13 will close at 1 p.m. and winners will be announced at 3:15 p.m.
Coeur d’Con itself begins at 10 a.m. at the library and will include activities throughout the day including papercrafts, comic book workshop, board game lounge, video game lounge, League of Legends Lounge, the SPLAT table, photo booth, and the Legends of Zelda Slingshot Challenge.
Panels for the day will include:
10:30 - Speed Runs: Finishing Video Games Quickly.
11:30 - Podcasting 101.
12:30 - Creating Fantasy Worlds.
1:30 - Women and the Future of Comics.
2:30 - Performing Cosplay.

Fan Meetups will include:
10:30 - Creating a Geek Group.
11:30 - Adventure Time.
12:30 - Avengers Q&A.
1:30 - Funny Superheroes.
2:30 - Reboot Revolt: Remakes in Hollywood.

The Geek Storytime schedule includes:
10:30 - High-Tech.
11:30 - Low-Tech.
1:30 - Superheroes.
2:30 - Star Wars.
