City garbage service transition continues, follow these steps

The City of Coeur d'Alene is transitioning its garbage hauling service to Coeur d'Alene Garbage effective July 1, and there are some simple steps to take to make sure your old Waste Management containers are retrieved.

During the next month, a team from Waste Management will be working to retrieve WM containers from the approximately 14,000 customers throughout Coeur d’Alene. We want to make this transition as easy as possible, so follow these steps:

  1. You may or may not have your Coeur d’Alene Garbage Cans yet. If you do, begin placing waste in that container. If you don’t, continue to use the Waste Management container.
  2. On your normal trash pickup day, place ALL cans at the curb, even if all containers have trash, or if some have nothing. Either Coeur d’Alene Garbage or Waste Management will empty the containers, pursuant to a deal with the City to ensure service remains uninterrupted.
  3. Continue to put all containers from both providers out on your normal service day. Waste Management’s team will eventually get to your segment of the community and will take them away. We estimate the full transition will take approximately one month. We ask that you take the containers off the street after your service pickup each week to help keep streets free of clutter and to assist street sweepers navigating roads.

The City will continue to provide updates through this process. If over the next month you have not received a Coeur d’Alene Garbage Container, residential customers may contact the City at (208) 769-2227. Commercial customers may call Coeur d’Alene Garbage at (208) 457-1820.

If you have any questions regarding this service transition with Waste Management, or about these instructions, please feel free to contact the Waste Management customer service center at (208) 765-4968.
