Jim Hammond, a former Idaho state senator who previously served as a city councilman, mayor and city administrator in Post Falls, has been named Coeur d’Alene city administrator.

Hammond, 64, was selected from a nationwide pool of 64 candidates. He is expected to start his new position in November.

“I am very excited to welcome Jim Hammond to the city,” said Coeur d’Alene Mayor Steve Widmyer. “Jim brings great leadership skills, extensive city experience and is well respected in North Idaho, as well as the entire state. I look forward to working with him to accomplish great things for Coeur d’Alene.”

Hammond served 16 years on the Post Falls City Council, including 6 years as mayor from 1990-96. He was Post Falls city administrator from 1996 to 2006. He served as a state senator from 2006 to 2012.

Hammond will take over for Coeur d’Alene finance director Troy Tymesen, who has been serving as acting city administrator since Wendy Gabriel resigned in May.
