A short-course bike race in downtown Coeur d’Alene Friday evening will result in street closures as participants take to the streets in a spirited, fast-paced biking competition.

“This is a very exciting high-speed bike racing event for participants and spectators and we hope to see it here annually,” said Coeur d’Alene Downtown Association Manager Terry Cooper. “It’s exciting for downtown and we hope spectators will come out and watch and enjoy.”

The CDA Downtown Crit Fest features four “high intensity” bicycle races. Street closures will be from 4-10 p.m.:

  • Sherman, Lakeside and Coeur d’Alene avenues from 4th to 6th streets

  • North/South traffic on 4th through 6th between Sherman and Coeur d’Alene avenues.

  • Alleyways immediately south of Sherman Avenue between 4th and 6th streets.

Aside from the racing competition, there will be an open “Rally Ride” on the same course. Billed as a low-key, non-competitive romp around the course, organizers said all bicyclists are welcome for the Rally Ride that will take place between races.

“Show up on your tall bike, beater bike, beach cruiser, mountain bike, ‘fixie’, or anything that has two wheels! No spandex required but other goofy costumes are appreciated,” organizers said.
