This is our 31st annual Activities Guide.  Inside you will find information on programs, sports, special events, and classes available for your participation.

YOUTH SPORTS SPONSORSHIP

 

All Coeur d’Alene Recreation Department youth sport teams are sponsored by local businesses or organizations. We are always in need of new sponsors.  If you would like to sponsor a team please contact Paula at 769-2250 or stop by our office located in Cd’A City Hall at 710 Mullan Ave.

 

COACHES

 

We rely almost 100% on parent volunteers to coach our youth teams and are always in need. We welcome any responsible adult or teenager to volunteer to coach in youth programs such as soccer, baseball, softball, flag football, and basketball.

 

INSURANCE COVERAGE

 

THE COEUR D’ALENE RECREATION DEPARTMENT DOES NOT CARRY ACCIDENT INSURANCE FOR PROGRAM PARTICIPANTS. THE COST WOULD MAKE THE PROGRAM FEES PROHIBITIVE.  PLEASE REVIEW YOUR OWN PERSONAL HEALTH INSURANCE PLAN TO BE CERTAIN THAT YOU AND YOUR FAMILY HAVE THE PROPER COVERAGE.

 

REFUND POLICY

 

If an activity is cancelled we will give you a full refund. If you withdraw from an instructor led program prior to the first class you can apply the registration fee for a full credit towards any future activity.  If you withdraw from a sports league prior to the first game then you can apply the registration fee for a full credit towards any future activity.

Otherwise, we do not issue refunds.

 

SCHOLARSHIP POLICY

 

A partial waiver of fees may be available for youth sports league programs offered in our activity guide. Requests are evaluated based on need and available funds.  Funds are limited and come via public donations.  To apply or donate, please contact our office.

SKYHAWKS SPORTS CAMP

 

The Coeur d’Alene Recreation Department co-sponsors sports camps with the Skyhawks. These are week long summer sports camps for kids ages 3-12 here in Coeur d’Alene.  They offer half day and full day camps for soccer, baseball, basketball, tennis, and football.

COEUR D’ALENE TENNIS ASSOCIATION

 

If you like to play tennis with people of similar ability on a regular basis, the Coeur d’Alene Tennis Association’s Adult and Junior USA Team tennis leagues offer a great way for individuals and families to enjoy tennis once a week during the summer.

 

Players of all levels are welcome, but basic knowledge of the game and rules is required.

K / 1S T/ 2ND GRADE BASKETBALL

 

Registration is January 3-13. League play will begin in mid February.  Games are played Mon–Thurs and on Saturdays.  We do use 8 foot baskets.  Fee: $30 res. $35 Non-resident.

 

MENS SPRING BASKETBALL

 

We will offer a Men’s spring basketball league. League play begins week of February 20.   Team entry fee is $315.00.  Entry deadline is Monday February 13.

 

Recreational League – Mon & Wed.   Competitive League – Tue & Thurs.

Teams choose game night. Teams play a 7 game schedule.

 

ADULT COED DODGEBALL

 

We will offer a Coed Dodgeball league in March. Team registration is February 1– 28.  Team entry fee is $125.  All league participants must be at least 15 years old.

 

YOUTH VOLLEYBALL CAMP

 

Registration is Feb 1 – 17 for grades 1-8.  This camp is held at Woodland M.S.

Camp begins in March. Cost is $35 for 6 hours of instruction.

 

SPRING YOUTH SOCCER

 

We coordinate a youth soccer program for boys and girls in grades K-8.                          K and 1st grades play micro soccer 3 on 3.  2nd – 7th play is 7 on 7.

 

You must be currently enrolled in K or be 5 years of age to be eligible for the Kindergarten league.

 

Registration will be held at our office March 1 – 10. Games will begin in mid-April.

Fee is $15 for city residents and $25 for non-city residents.

 

MINI KICKERS SOCCER

 

In conjunction with Sting Soccer Club we will offer a camp style soccer activity for         3 and 4 year olds.  Registration is March 1 – 10.  

 

This consists of 4 one-hour sessions on Saturday mornings. Sting Soccer Club will facilitate each Saturday session with parent participation encouraged.

 

There are no practices. Players MUST bring a size 3 soccer ball.

 

You must be at least 3 years old on April 20. Cost is $35.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

ADULT SOFTBALL

 

We will begin taking team registration for the 2017 summer season beginning February 27. Teams must pay the full sponsor fee with a roster before a league position is reserved. As a courtesy to other teams we cannot take partial payment, hold checks, or hold spots.  A managers meeting will be held prior to the start of the season.

We can take a maximum of 44 teams per night.

   

                        Mens / Womens / Coed / Mens Church                                  $675.

                       Coed Church / Coed Short Season / Sunday Coed                $540.

                        Senior / Masters                                                                      $540.

           

We hold a PreSeason Tournament for Men, Women, & Coed leagues. If you want to play PreSeason please add $90 to your team entry fee.

                       

Coed PreSeason deadline: April 4. Mens & Womens PreSeason deadline: April 11.

 

MENS SLOW PITCH SOFTBALL

 

A pre-season tournament kicks off the league beginning on April 21. League play will begin on May 4. ‘C’ league doubleheader night is Tuesday.  All other teams play either Tuesday or Thursday.  Teams choose game night. League entry deadline is Wednesday April 19th.

 

COED SLOW PITCH SOFTBALL

 

A pre-season tournament kicks off the league beginning on April 14. League play will begin on Monday, April 25. League play will be on Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday.  Teams choose game night.  League entry deadline is Wednesday April 12th.

 

CHURCH LEAGUE SOFTBALL

 

The Cd’A Recreation Dept. will offer Men’s Church League play on Friday night or Coed teams play either Wednesday or Friday.  Teams choose game night.  League deadline is Wednesday April 19th for men’s and May 3th for coed.

 

WOMENS SLOW PITCH SOFTBALL

 

The Women’s season will start with a pre-season tournament beginning on April 22. League play will begin on Monday, April 25th.  League play is Monday.  League deadline is Wednesday April 12th.

                                                               

13 – 15 YEAR OLD COED SOFTBALL

  The CdA Recreation Department will offer for the first time a 13 – 15 year old coed softball league.  Registration will   be held May 1 - 19.   Our office is located at 710 Mullan Avenue in the lower level of the city hall. 

The league will start in mid-June and run through the first of August.   Registration fees is $20.  Games will be played

  Monday – Thursday evenings.   

 

 

YOUTH BASEBALL / SOFTBALL

 

Boys and girls ages 5-13 may register May 2 – 25 for our summer baseball and softball program.  League play begins around July 1 and lasts for 5 weeks.  Age deadline in all divisions will be July 20, 2017. Fee is $15 for city residents and $25 for non-city .

KIDS GOLF LESSONS

 

Two sessions of golf classes are offered. Registration is June 1-9.  There is limited registration so register early.  The first session begins week of June 12. Second session begins week of July 10.  Cost is $45.

 

 

YOUTH FISHING DERBY

 

Youngsters 5 – 16 years of age are invited to test their fishing skills and win valuable prizes at the Fins & Feathers Fishing Derby from 8:00am – 12:00pm on June 3 at Fernan Lake. Pre-registration will occur at Fins & Feathers May 2 – May 27.  You can also register the day of the derby at 7:30am at Fernan Lake boat ramp.

 

Several prizes will be presented with special awards for the biggest fish and largest stringer in all age groups. A parent or guardian must accompany all participants.

 

YOUTH TENNIS CLASSES

 

We offer two sessions of tennis lessons during the summer. The first session will begin on June 12.  The second session will begin July 10.  Registration will be held June 1-9 or until classes fill.  Classes are held two times a week for four weeks.  Each person must provide their own tennis racket and 3 tennis balls.  Cost is $35 for city residents and $40 for non-city residents.  There is limited registration so register early.

 

 

ANNUAL KID’S PARADE

 

The annual Kid’s Parade begins the 4th of July celebration here in Coeur d’Alene. This year’s parade will be held on MONDAY, July 3. This crowd favorite begins at 10:00 am at 10th & Sherman and continues to Independence Point.  The theme for this year’s parade will be “Coeur d’Alene – What makes it special”

 

There are four categories to choose from:

  • Wheels 2)  Floats  3)  Pets  4)  Costumes

 

FALL YOUTH SOCCER

Flag football is offered for 2nd & 3rd graders.  Registration will be held from Aug 1 – 25.

Fee is $15 for city residents and $25 for non-city residents.

 

The City of Coeur d’Alene does not offer tackle football. Cd’A Jr. Tackle, which is a private organization, does offer tackle football for grades 3 – 8.  Registration information and contact phone numbers can be accessed on their website at cdajrtackle.org.

 

COED & MENS FALL SOFTBALL

 

The Recreation Department in conjunction with Cd’A Softball Association will offer a fall coed & men’s league.

 

Team entry fee is $510. Team entry deadline is Friday August 11.  League play begins the week of August 22. Coed teams may select the Mon/Wed recreational league or the Thurs competitive doubleheader league. Men’s teams play Tuesday doubleheaders.

 

YOUTH BASKETBALL

 

We offer a youth basketball league for all 3rd – 8th graders.

Registration for 3rd – 5th graders is October 2 – 13.

Registration for 6th – 8th graders is October 16 - 20.                                                  

 

Players are placed on teams by our staff and according to grade level and school.      Games will be played on weeknights and Saturdays.                                                      Cost is $30 for residents and $35 for non-residents.

 

MENS BASKETBALL

 

Our department offers a Men’s basketball league during the winter months.

 

Team entry fee is $550. Team entry deadline is Friday October 13.

Each year over Christmas break we have open gym for grades 3-8 at Woodland M.S. Contact us in December for times or check our webpage where we will post gym hours.

 

YOUTH WRESTLING CAMP

 

We will again co-sponsor a youth wrestling camp with the North Idaho College wrestling team.  The program is for children in K - 6th grade.

 

Registration will occur December 1 – 30. Cost is $35.00.  All participants receive a free t-shirt and 5 sessions of some of the best wrestling instruction in Idaho.  The camp is held in January with a post-season tournament.  Enrollment is limited.

Lokahi Dance – Offering Classes for ages 3 and above

Creative Ballet

Little ones are introduced to the exciting world of dance! Join Miss Bria for an

upbeat warm up, basic ballet technique, traveling moves across the floor, and

learn a fun dance routine we will perform for parents. Ballet tights, leotard and

slippers required.

Jazz & Hip Hop

Learn basic Jazz & Hip Hop dance vocabulary and choreography from an

experienced instructor. This class will emphasize coordination, technique and

style! Dress in comfortable clothing. Dance sneakers or Jazz shoes

recommended.

Jazz Funk

A fusion of Jazz and Hip Hop dance with added Funk. Learn a variety of tricks,

leaps, turns, and choreography while emphasizing technique, musicality, and a lot of style. Dress in comfortable clothing. Dance sneakers or Jazz shoes

recommended.

Contemporary

An blend of Jazz, Ballet, and Modern dance technique. Students will learn how to

express the emotion in music with powerful fluid movement. Bare feet or dance

FUNKEY FOURSOMES

Introduction to Piano & Keyboard – Ages 7-9

 

Instructor Allyson Gross has been teaching North Idaho kids and adults since 1988. A fabulous fun way for your child to learn piano.  Kids play real songs using both hands from the first lesson, read musical notes and symbols, play rhythm instruments, and gain confidence through group singing and piano games. 

 

Fully orchestrated accompaniments in class inspire and encourage them; take home books and CD’s keep them playing all week!. Classes continuing weekly September through May. Limit 4 children per class.  Winter Classes are January 19-February 9 for Thursday 4:45-5:30 PM classes and January 16-February 6 for Monday 5:30-6:15 PM classes.

 

INDOOR SWIM LESSONS

 

One of our most popular programs is swim lessons for boys and girls ages 3 and above. Classes are held at the McGrane Center located in the Kootenai Medical Center complex.   

 

The fee is $37 for six weeks of instruction. Classes are offered year round during the evening after 5:00pm.  Registration dates vary so call  769-2250 or check our web page for the most current posting.

 

OPEN PICKLEBALL

 

Offered seasonally indoor October through May at Venture High School, 1619 N. 9th St.    Wednesday, Friday, or Sunday evenings from 6 PM to 9 PM.  This drop in activity is easy to learn and great exercise.  Come join the fun in the fastest growing sport in the area.  Cost is $2 per evening.  For more information on pickleball and membership check out www.usapa.org For more information on local events and tournaments visit  www.nipba.org.

SPECIAL NEEDS PROGRAMS

 

The Coeur d’Alene Recreation Department in conjunction with Special Needs Recreation of Kootenai County offers various recreation programs for special needs children who have problems participating in other programs because of a learning disability, sensory impairment, mental, emotional, or physical handicap.

THE JEWETT HOUSE SENIOR CENTER

 

This elegant three-story house, built in 1917 by the Rutledge family, is nestled against a pine-covered hillside at 1501 East Lakeshore. The grounds are beautifully landscaped with flowerbeds, a grape arbor, shrubs, and shade trees of many varieties.

 

The Potlatch Corporation gave this beautiful residence to the City of Coeur d’Alene for the enjoyment of its senior citizens.  Scheduled activities include pinochle, bridge, quilting, and club meetings for senior groups.

 

The house is also available for other uses such as weddings, arts and crafts, family reunions, meetings, and study groups. To schedule the Jewett House, call 208-667-5194.
